A beautiful compact made by E. This is an early 1900’s – 1920’s sterling silver and gold dance/coin purse compact, with replaced mirror. The front is inlaid with 18k yellow and 14k rose gold. On the front and back of the purse are beautifully engraved letters. This purse is marked on the inside with the company hallmark and purity marks for sterling silver, 18k, 14k gold. 3 1/2 inches in height x 2 1/2 inches in width x 3/8 inches depth. Attached chain for carrying measures approximately 10 1/2 inches in length. This purse opens easily and closes securely. The hinge is in excellent condition and opens and closes correctly. There are a few dings and scratches on the front and back but nothing major. Purse weighs 107.8 grams. These compact purses were made for holding powder, loose change with a compartment for bank notes, change, dance cards and photographs. A wonderful piece of history and still a very functional accessory for today.
