Known as a center for metalworking, The Karakorum also boasted many smelting furnaces and workshops that specialized in gold, copper, bronze, and ironwork. Evidence of ceramic production and importation of pottery were found by archeologists as well. After a significant drought, The Karakorum was largely abandoned in 1267 and was subsequently destroyed by Ming dynasty troops in 1380.
