THOMAS RICHARDS COIN SILVER WHEAT SHEAF SUGAR TONGS c1815 – NY – 54 GRAMS. Ed for Sale are these Rare Thomas Richards Coin Silver Wheat Sheaf Sugar Tongs, New York City c1815. The tongs are marked T. Richards on the inside of the tongs, both sides. The exterior of both arms has a raised wheat sheaf and sickle with great definition. The end of the tongs has a monogram. Richards was a Silversmith, Jeweler and Watchmaker who participated in a number of partnerships between the early 1800’s until his death in 1830. These Lovely Silver Sugar Tongs would be a Great Addition to any Vintage / Antique Sterling Collection. Size: Length 6 1/2″ – Width 2″ at the widest point Weight: 54.2 Grams Coin Silver. Condition: – Very Good Overall Used Condition. The tongs display scratching, nicking, staining and tarnish. Please see the pictures to view the condition of the item for yourself. Early American Coin Silver Scissor Sugar Nips Tongs marked W. C or William Cowell of Boston Massachusetts in business 1686 to 1736. Presented is an exquisite pair of Early American solid Coin silver sugar nips or tongs with a hand hammered detailing around the edges and shell motif ends. This piece with marked W. C I believe to be for William Cowell smithing in Boston Massachusetts from 1686 to 1736. I have posted pictures of my research in the photos above. They are in stunning condition with only some pin-prick nicks or dings and some fine scratches from gentle use and care with no monogram. They are an excellent example for Early American artistry and a great addition to almost any silver collection for the more astute and discerning silver collector and fine antiques. I have an interesting selection of items listed currently so please look at my other auctions. Measure : 4 ¾ inches long 2 inches across ring handles. ¾ inches across shell end. Weight : 1.4 ounces or 40 grams on my postal scale. Some pin-prick nicks or dings, no monogram, some fine scratches from gentle use and care.
