C1840s Beautiful American Coin Silver Hand Chased Chalice Goblet Cup. Presented is an impressive American coin silver chalice or large goblet. The cup is made in a lovely classical form, beautifully hand chased and engraved with floral and foliate decoration around the sides and foot. The decoration is quite well done, with a nice degree of detail and texturing. One side of the cup has a scroll-enclosed cartouche, with the monogram PAH in elegant script. The cup is clean as can be, inside and out, ready for use or display. This piece is in great overall condition. The details of the decoration are nice and crisp. There is an old solder repair, professionally done, above the knop of the stem, which is much more noticeable in the photos than in real life. There are no other repairs, no splits, no dents, and no monogram removals. The chalice is stamped with the maker’s mark for William Forbes, a fine New York silver maker.
