In 2023 the sovereign island nation of Niue issued it’s first coin in their Legendary Warriors series honoring the fierce Norwegian King Eric’Bloodaxe’ Heraldsson. 999 fine silver and features selective gold gilding on the obverse of the coin. Eric’Bloodaxe’ Heraldsson ruled as King in the 10th century, first as Norwegian king from 932-934, then twice in Northumbria from 947-948 and 952-954. He was known for his fearsome reputation as a warrior and his unrelenting pursuit of power. This coin commemorates his legacy with a stunning design that captures his spirit and strength. The obverse design features a towering high relief. Heraldsson wielding an axe and shield. Selective gold gilding on his namesake axe, shield, and helmet add a stunning contrast to the antiqued finish of the coin. An inscription of his name can be seen arched above him on the obverse. The reverse design displays the Public Seal of Niue encircled by the weapons of Legendary Warriors.
