The Purse was made by W. Weston Silversmith of Birmingham in 1904 – as per hallmarks. The chain link handle has a drop of 3.5. The body of the Purse is 2.75 x 2. The Purse weighs 86 grams. The Front and Back are of a similar design and are highly engraved – Please study photos carefully for design and hallmarks, as this is very detailed design. A beautiful compact made by E. This is an early 1900’s – 1920’s sterling silver and gold dance/coin purse compact, with replaced mirror. The front is inlaid with 18k yellow and 14k rose gold. On the front and back of the purse are beautifully engraved letters. This purse is marked on the inside with the company hallmark and purity marks for sterling silver, 18k, 14k gold. 3 1/2 inches in height x 2 1/2 inches in width x 3/8 inches depth. Attached chain for carrying measures approximately 10 1/2 inches in length. This purse opens easily and closes securely. The hinge is in excellent condition and opens and closes correctly. There are a few dings and scratches on the front and back but nothing major. Purse weighs 107.8 grams. These compact purses were made for holding powder, loose change with a compartment for bank notes, change, dance cards and photographs. A wonderful piece of history and still a very functional accessory for today. This is a lovely Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Evening Purse. It is a highly engraved example of a fine quality Victorian Era Coin, Dance Card purse. It was used to hold coins, dance cards, powder puff & small mirror. The chain link handle has an approximate drop of 7 1/2. The body of the purse is 3 1/2″ x 2 1/2″. The front is decorated with a high relief flower design, with a heart in the center and the monogrammed letters. The back is plain. The interior has a clover shaped card holder bracket, following compartments for other necessities. The inside is marked with what looks like a horse, Sterling & 7248. I can not make out the other markings. The overall condition is very good, it is a solid piece at 107.7 grams. It is a beautiful piece. The exterior of the case has a beautiful engraved Sterling Silver body with floral and scroll design. Center cartouche engraved with fancy 3-letter monogram R. The interior is fitted with two coin holders (one for nickels and one for dimes) with a make-up mirror compartment on one side. The silver is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws and reflecting only minimal signs of wear. The hinge is in excellent condition and opens and closes correctly. Purse h as an attached 11″ chain for carrying which gives a 5 1/2″ drop. The compact/purse m easures 1/2″ deep, 3 3/4″ long and 2 1/2 wide.
